IS NIGERIA RIPE FOR A FEMALE PRESIDENT?

I have came to understand that the Nigerian political space is not for people of chicken heart but for people of witty, clever, brave, bold, bold and hard liver.

The 2019 elections has thrown up more surprises than many could imagine.

First, the PDP heavyweights that travelled to APC returned in a dramatic way to the chagrin all and sundry. The return of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was the most dramatic; he had kunu with the President a night and defected the next morning. No qualms there, it’s all politics

Nobody saw it coming or imagined that the former governor f Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio. His defections further asserted the saying that in politics there are no permanent friends or enemies but permanent interests.

I was still coming to terms with the defections of Akpabio when Emmanuel Uduaghan defected to the APC.I don’t have much to talk about Uduaghan but let God be with him.

With the introduction above,it is obvious that it takes the brevity of Atiku Abubakar, the wit of Bukola Saraki, the courage of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the dramatic persona of Dino Melaye to junket around political parties without getting hurt, can a woman do this ?

To be honest and sincere, the Nigerian political playing ground is not ripe enough to accommodate women. I have been privileged to listen to many schools of thought; many of them have concluded that for now that Nigeria lacks the level playing ground for a woman be President.

Eunice Atuejide, the, the only Presidential whom I have listened speak on many occasions seems to possess the qualities of a presidential aspirant but I doubt if she can maneuver her way through the midnight intrigues.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, I believe is in the better position to turn this country around economically but the “big granddaddies” will write her off. “She doesn’t have the experience “they would say. I don’t know the experience they expect a woman that has chaired many economic boards to have.

Oby Ezekwesili can also turn this around but the granddaddies can’t tolerate her integrity.

I strongly believe that the lack of level playing for women to effectively participate in politics is what is clogging our wheel of progress. The President doesn’t believe in the notion of a woman becoming our President, he believes that women belong to the other room.

Nigeria is not ripe yet for a female President in 2019, 2023 will still be weighed in the balance.

Feminists, please I hope I didn’t hurt you people, I was only sincerely saying the obvious truth.

ANOTHER ISSUE: THE FEMI FANI KAYODE POLICE INVITATION.

I was saddened when I learnt that the fierce activist, Femi Fani Kayode was invited by the police on what they termed publication of “inciting” articles. I beg to remind the FG, APC and the Police obviously working on the instructions of the FG and the APC heavyweights who felt that their feathers have been ruffled by the articles of Femi Fani Kayode what Nasir El-Rufai wrote in 2011 concerning “inciting” articles which he wrote many of them under Yar’Adua and Jonathan administrations. He even wrote a scathing one for the Financial Times.

“They thought and believed that Jonathan is the State, and an article insulting to him constituted an offence” (Pg 474, paragraph 2 of his autography “Accidental Public Servant)

I beg the Nigerian Police Force to respect every citizen’s right of freedom of speech.

Nagode.
