To my significant other

A Poem

Would you think less of me if I
Decided I don’t wanna try?
If I stood up and walked away,
Regardless of what others say.

Would you despise me for my choice,
If I ignored your wish and voice?
If I gave up on what we had
And ran abroad for a fresh start.

Would you be able to forgive
If I said everyone can leave?
If I disdained the rules and oaths
Because my urge has greater worth.

Would you keep thinking it was you
Who screw things up and always knew,
That I can’t settle for the world,
Where wealth means more than any thought.

Would you acknowledge that it’s me
Who could trade love and certainty
For fears and guilt and nights alone
To learn there is much more than home.

Would you keep photos and my cat
And think of me or things I said,
When you have found someone new,
Who can’t efface how I loved you.
