Michael Brdar was promoted to Hitting Coordinator after spending last season as the Giants Assistant Coordinator of Minor League Hitting and the Hitting Coach for Salem-Keizer. Brdar came to the Giants by way of the University of Michigan, where he spent the 2018–2019 seasons on the staff of Michigan Baseball. He joined the Wolverines in January of 2018 as a program assistant and transitioned to his role as a volunteer coach in 2019 where he worked primarily with Michigan’s outfield and assisted with the hitters. As a player, Brdar began his collegiate career at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, CA before transferring to Michigan for his final two years of eligibility. During his senior season, he was named to the All-Big Ten Conference first team after posting a .310 average as a shortstop and leading the team with 75 hits while helping guide the Wolverines to an NCAA Tournament appearance. He was selected by St. Louis in the 36th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft and spent one season in their minor league system, hitting .235 in 31 games played for the GCL Cardinals.
Tony Diggs was promoted to Minor League Field Coordinator after serving as the Giants Arizona Rookie League Manager in 2020. Prior to joining SF, Diggs spent 16 seasons in the Brewers organization in various roles. Most recently, he served as a Special Instructor in Arizona, assisting with both of Milwaukee’s Arizona League clubs. In addition to his various coaching roles, he was the Assistant Director of Player Development from 2006–13 before transitioning to an Assistant to the Director of Staff and Player Development, assisting with day-to-day administration duties in Phoenix. From 2016–2018 he also served as an outfield and base running coordinator. He also managed Milwaukee’s AZL club from 2008–12. From 2013–2015 he skippered Rookie-Level Helena. He’s been named a Manager of the Year twice, once in the AZL in 2010 and once in the Pioneer League in 2013. Prior to joining Milwaukee he was a minor league hitting coach in the Cardinals organization from 1998–99 and 2002–03. Additionally, he spent two years as Director of Player Development/Major League Baseball consultant with the International Baseball League of Australia and also consulted for Team Australia during the 2000 Olympics. As a player, he was selected by Milwaukee in the sixth round of the 1989 draft and played eight seasons in the minors with the Brewers (1989–93) and Cardinals (1994–96) as an outfielder reaching as high as Triple-A. He and his wife, Kim, and children, Amber, A.J., Aaron, Andrew, Aidan, Alaina and Addison, reside in Goodyear, AZ.
Ed Lucas was recently hired as the Assistant Hitting Coordinator and embarks on his first season with the Giants in 2021. Prior to joining San Francisco, Lucas spent the 2020 season with the Milwaukee Brewers as their Hitting Coordinator. In 2019, he was the Player Information Assistant for the Philadelphia Phillies. Lucas spent two season with the Miami Marlins as their Major League Administrative Coach and Replay Coordinator from 2017–2018. Originally an eighth round pick by the Kansas City Royals in 2004, he enjoyed a 13 year playing career for seven different organizations. Lucas made his big league debut in May 2013 for the Marlins and appeared in 163 games over two seasons. He played six different positions, including first base, second base, third base, shortstop, left field and right field. While with Miami he was teammates with current Giants players, Donovan Solano and Anthony DeSclafani. He hit his first career home run off Barry Zito at Oracle Park on June 22, 2013. Lucas attended Dartmouth College from 2001–2004 and was named Ivy League Player of the Year in 2004. He currently resides in Jupiter, Florida with his wife Holly and sons Rhodes, Brooks, and Des.
