The Future

Mexican Literature

Poetry

When you are no longer young
And the defects finally find you
Digging the sterile land of your vanity

When finally you can no longer see
Those old, large, and green riversides
Where the light and the luck showed you
With the language of star and fishes
A smile where you could hug
The silence of your belly

When you can no longer ignore
The off-key song that gnawed from the inside
The skin of the needy fellow

When your knacks are no longer on fire
and hunger claims with an ignoble voice
“It was never enough,”

Then will you embrace the dry and silent ground
Believing perhaps it hides your ancient satiety?
