Ways To Make You Mentally Stronger

Almost everyone that I run into is trying to get their physical bodies into shape and to become physically fit. Each year it seems that everyone I know makes New Year’s resolutions to work-out at the gym in order to get the body back in shape. But the reality is that only eight percent of the people that make these New Years resolutions stick to them and accomplish their goal.

The sad fact is that most people don’t pay any attention to their mental work-out or do anything to get their brain physically fit. You never hear anyone talking about making a New Year’s resolution to get their mind in great physical shape. Everyone needs to pay attention to this main muscle in our body that runs our entire machine called our body. If this muscle is not in tip-top shape then the rest of our body is doomed.

In today’s society, everyone is concerned about what their bodies look like on the outside Most people are concerned if they are too fat or too skinny or they care more about their material things instead of what they need to be worried about, their brain.

You see, the brain is what makes our body tick. Without a brain, even our heart will stop working. We need to keep our brain in good physical shape, we need to exercise it on a regular basis. We need to make sure it is receiving proper nutrition and that it is receiving enough rest at the end of the day.

The brain is a muscle that leads to good self-discipline. If the brain is tired and week then it will not tell your body to be strong and have good self-discipline.

Here are some things that you can do to become mentally stronger.

Spending quiet time every-day in order to reflect on what took place today. Reflect on the good things that happened to you and think about what things that you could have done better. If you are like most people, I am sure that you have set some goals for your life, this time of self-reflection will give you time to reflect on these goals and help you stay motivated to achieve them.

2. Don’t Live In Your Comfort Zone

Each one of us will get into a comfort zone at some time in our life. Many of us stay within the confines of this zone because we are afraid to face fears if we venture into the unknown. But in order to grow, we need to face fears head-on. In the long run, this will help train us to get past the thoughts and fears of failure.

3. Get Physically Fit.

In order to have a mind, you need to have a fit body. The body and the mind need to work together in order to have a smooth running machine. The body needs the right amount of rest both mentally and physically and it needs to have the right nourishment in order for it to be strong and fit.

4. Social Interaction

5. Journaling

6. Listen to your Inner Voice

7. Be Aware of Your Internal Feelings

All people have inner feelings but most people are uncomfortable to share or express their true feelings. Even when you go to a wedding or a funeral you will see people holding back tears of joy and happiness. They feel vulnerable in expressing their true feelings. Emotions are a key player when it comes to making a decision in your life, you need to be free to express and show your true feelings to everyone that is around you let them see the true you. When you do you will see how you will make better decisions and behave by how you are connected to your feelings.

8. Ethical & Moral Values

Each one of us has a different set of values that drive us to live the way we do. Many people would rather live a life that is different than the one they actually live. If you have a desire to give back to your community or go on mission trips to help people in other countries sometimes it can be hard to live a lifestyle that allows you to live out your desires.

You may have to see where you spend your time, money and energy and make some lifestyle changes that will allow you more opportunity to live a life that is in more in sync with your values.

Adam Grant, Wharton professor and author of the best-selling book Give and Take, believes that giving is an essential part of becoming successful. It takes mental strength to give or to want to go the extra mile for someone without expecting anything in return. Focus on adding value and contributing to the world.

Don’t try and make all these changes at the same time. Start off taking things slow and change one thing at a time. Each day that you are able to accomplish one of these changes the closer you are to gaining mental strength in order to have a better more fulfilling lifestyle.
