SERIES ON THE LIFE OF A DISABLED YOUTH

I have always been on the radar all my life. Growing up was the pits i tell you, i still feel it even now as i get closer to 25. You forever feel judged, persecuted and degraded, from the looks you get as you walk around the neighbourhood to the inquisitive questions you get from people that you encounter along the way.

I remeber growing up i preferred to be with someone that icould hook my hand to and hide it in public. Recently i realised that i still do it especially in crowded places. Going out with my friends i make sure i wear something long or a hoodie that willl cover my hand.

Graduating last week i decided to follow my friends to a local night spot and yes you guessed right — i wore a long flappy cardigan — when i got there i was lost in the world of good music since i LOVE to dance LoL — some fellow student who i don’t even know his name joined me, he started tryna hold my hands and try as i must to avoid him touching my hand he wouldn’t relent. after his hundredieth attempt he whispers to my ear and says “why you hiding your hand don’t you know you beautiful with all your flaws??”

First insticnt was to run but then i asked myself how long am i go run for? havent i run enough? aren’t i tired of the same encounter? In true sense its not easy nor does it get any better trust me i have had to endure scrutiny from birth. My mother says i screamed a lot from the minute i was born and my response now is that i was scrutized upon too much and its irritating as hell, its not fun at all to have people want to question your capabilities and try to feel your pain yet its not even physical pain but psychological and spiritual pain.
