Refermate 2021 Scholarship

Education is something that not a lot of people have easy access to. One of the biggest factors that block someone’s path to a higher education is cost. That person does not want to go into debt, so they do not go to a college or university and instead go into the work force, never achieving their dream job. This is seen a lot in the United States where according to Farran Powell in their article “What You Need to Know About College Tuition Costs”, “In looking just at schools ranked in the National Universities category, for example, the average cost of tuition and fees for the 2021–2022 school year is $43,775 at private colleges, $28,238 for out-of-state students at public schools and $11,631 for state residents at public colleges”. Not a lot of students can afford that even with financial aid and it comes down to families having to spend their own money to pay for their sons or daughters’ education. This leads to many teen students to drop their dream job and having to go into the work force to either start saving money or to continue the rest of their life working.

Something that can be done to make education more accessible to students is to lower the cost of attending classes. Lowering the cost will significantly increases the chances of a student to go to a college or university. Although this does come with some drawbacks. The income of teaching is already bad enough and lowering the income that goes into the college or university will not help with their income and might even lower due to not as much money coming in. But this can be countered by the idea that more students will be attending, meaning that before the amount was a lot but only a couple of students would join and now it would be less the amount that would be coming in but more students would be joining and eventually that would surpass the amount coming in before.

Another idea that can be implemented to make education more accessible for students is to make it easier to win scholarships and make the quantity higher. Submitting a scholarship gives you a slim chance of actually winning the money since you are competing against thousands of other students in need of the money. By making the number of students that win higher then you increase the chances of someone in need of the money winning. Increasing the number of scholarships available for students would also entice students to go to college or university since they know that it will be covered by the scholarships.
